Flood Management

Ryan has a strong suit in fluid dynamics, hydrostatics and water reticulation to provide assurance with the planning around our drainage systems. Auckland itself as a whole, has suffered a defined number of small injuries over the last 10 to 20 years. Flooding is a solvable, quantifiable and pro-active science.

As sea levels rise higher, the hydrostatic pressure in the drains drops off considerably as the “fall” between pipes to destination of river, streams and sea is reduced. A calculation of loss of pressure relative to river rise and sea level rise needs to be factored into the regional drainage aspect plan. See below, these plans have all been created by Ryan who has been asked with these questions at the campaign debate, smashing each query out of the park along the road to mayoralty.

New housing upstream is becoming known as additional loading on almost all existing suburbs down stream. New developments can have a higher drain pressure than the drain pressure of lower level existing suburbs, which means existing homes can become affected in high load times. As almost all of our drainage systems are intertidal open-cast streams and esturaries, alsost all affordable housing divisions are plugging into existing drinage systems. Affordable housing could potentially make the whole city become unaffordable, unless the drainage system is professionally quantified.

Ryan is a career product developer with an expertise in volumetrics and also 6 years hydrofoil boat stabilization experience that has provided a strong foundation to become expert level in the field of science that is harbour<estuary<river<stream seabed bathymetry.

Takapuna Golf Course

Ryan stands for Takapuna Golf Course to make their own decisions about what they want to with the golf course and how they want to manage it. I have created a couple CAD scale plans, including a TANK AND SIPHON concept to increase flow volumes by about 7 times current levels.

Ryan has looked into the flooding situation while preparing for the Greenhithe Residents and Wairau Flooding debate, hosted by Ken Forrest. Ryan pointing out a self observation and discovery of two trees down in the Wairau Valley aquaduct. These are quantifiable flow obstructions, of which Ryan as a field of expertise, taking time lapse photos of a flooded region in another part of the country and discovering causation of the flood and sand loss explanation in that region.

Ryan has vocally supported continuity of Takapuna golf course at the Auckland University debate 26 August 2025. Has expressed hydrology expertise and also some extreme estuary seabed bathymetry expertise on offer to Auckland city from day 1. Ryan points out that a roughly 30% of the Wairau aquaduct is part of a natural intertidal bathymetric estuary system, within one field of Ryan's expertise.

Ryan has pledged to the Greehithe residents association 2 hours of day one in office to upper harbour flood relief and a further 2 hours to the Wairau Valley occupants together with Takapuna golf course management. It is essential that Ryan executively manages the removal of these trees and flotsam for analysis.
