Phase Out Of Auckland’s Annoying Speed Bumps

Since this campaign website was constructed in 2022, Sweden has installed a speed regulated technology that does not waste fuel.

Why should Auckland Council be building speed bumps when they are being phased out with correct technology around the world?

Speed bumps are a low intelligence technology from last century. Yes from an engineering perspective they slow cars in quite an absolute way. At a certain speed, the cars oscillating harmonic will be met, which results in cavitation and then beyond that is wear and damage to the vehicle's shocks, bearings, gearbox, brakes and mounts. The driver is then faced with either getting to work faster or doing wear and damage to the vehicle.

When a vehicle slows down and then accelerates away, it expends one teaspoon of fuel each time. When a bus or truck passes over it is one tablespoon each time. Now multiply that figure by 100,000 cars on the road and then multiply that by the average number of transits per car, 10? Is that 1M teaspoons of mineral fuel every day wasted?

On an intellectual plane, Ryan presents a solution to replace speed bumps with more modern electronic technology to be fitted into vehicles. Automated speed regulated vehicles and smart cars.

Imagine flooring the car out of the driveway and flooring it all the way to work. Yet at the same time perfectly observing the speed limit at all times.

Drivers will arrive to work faster while still ‘flooring it' all the way to work, 1km under the speed limit at all times. Imagine the precision around schools and school times with speed governed cars doing the hard work of constantly assessing speed on uneven and hilly roads.

Ever received a speeding ticket? There are environmental conditions and mechanical torque variations that can change a speed of a vehicle. People driving are also pressured to drive at a speed near-ish to the limit, while constantly assessing road safety, and having to constantly monitor a changing speed and engine power. Speed modulation is sub-prime to driver concentration and distraction.

So why does the great Auckland city not have this technology? The top four reasons are: Unstructured right-brain election system / likable right brainer's in politics, how about unlikable left-brain genius? / Media failure, the meaning of success is not to demolish and subdivide a nice new house and then go sit out on a boat. This is not economically sustainable nor environmentally either, for starters. Lately, all resources are going into building 'affordable homes' and cleaning up the flood damage. What about technology, what about replacing dredging? What about making the city economic? We simply don't have the time or focus.   Auckland is fiscally going backwards, Auckland is currently uneconomic.
